The government of Azerbaijan has announced an e-visa program for Pakistani nationals.

Khazar Farhadov, the country’s ambassador to Pakistan, confirmed the news on Tuesday.

The ambassador remarked that he is pleased to inform that Azerbaijan is welcoming Pakistani brothers. Everyone can now use the e-visa system. On Twitter he also tweeted, Welcome to Azerbaijan!

The news comes only hours after Pakistan’s representative to Azerbaijan, Bilal Hayee, said the two nations were planning to start direct flights in the near future.

“We hope to be able to recommence and launch direct flights between Pakistan and Azerbaijan in the next months.” This will be a major step forward in getting the peoples of the two countries nearer together,” a Pakistani diplomat told News.az on Tuesday.

He stated that direct flights would be offered between Baku and Pakistan’s major cities.

“It will only be a three-hour journey,” the envoy said, “and we hope that many of our Azerbaijani friends will be capable of traveling to Pakistan for tourism, commercial, and other activities.”

In June of this year, Pakistan and Azerbaijan will commemorate the 30th anniversary of their diplomatic relations, he added.
